Combine sugar, cream of tartar, salt and milk.
Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves.
Cook to 236° to 238°; cool to 220°. Add butter, vanilla and pecans.
Beat until creamy.

Makes 1 1/2 to 2 dozen.
