Congo Squares
Congo Squares is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3/4 c. shortening or oleo, 2 1/4 c. brown sugar, 3 eggs, 2 3/4 c. flour and 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.
Melt the shortening in a large saucepan.
Add brown sugar and mix well; cool slightly.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
Add the flour mixture to the mixture in the saucepan; mix well.
Add broken nuts and chocolate morsels.
Pour into 2 greased pans (7 1/2 x 11 x 1 1/2).
Bake at 325° to 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.
When almost cool, cut into squares.
