Strain clams.

Save liquid.

Chop clams.

Saute onion in 2 tablespoons of bacon fat until brown.

Simmer potatoes in water until tender.

Add reserved clam liquid, bacon, onion, salt and pepper to taste; simmer for 5 minutes.

Add milk; bring to a boil. Add clams and barely heat through.

Taste and correct seasoning. Add butter and thyme to each serving.

Cook clams first.

Add thyme.

Put parsley on for decoration.
