Chocolate Chip Date Nut Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. chopped dates, 1 tsp. soda, 1 1/2 c. boiling water, 1 1/3 c. sugar and 1/2 c. shortening, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Preheat oven to 350Β°.
Combine dates, soda and boiling water; set aside.
Cream together 1 cup sugar, shortening and eggs.
Add date mixture to creamed mixture.
Then gradually add flour, soda and salt.
Stir in 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup nut meats. Pour in 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan that is well greased and floured.
