Candied Sauerkraut
Candied Sauerkraut is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 (2 lb.) pkg. kraut, drained and rinsed, 1 medium onion, chopped fine, 3/4 c. white sugar, 2 c. tomato juice or stewed tomatoes (add third cup if necessary) and 1 tsp. celery seed, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Spread kraut in 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Sprinkle with onion, celery seed, garlic powder, sugar and bacon.
Pour tomatoes over all.
Bake 3 hours at 325Β° (if it gets too dry, add more tomatoes).
Dish should be moist, but not runny, when served.
Do not cover while baking.
