Brown Bread
Brown Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 1/2 c. raisins, 1 1/2 c. water, 1 tbsp. shortening, 1 c. sugar and 1/4 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add rest of dry ingredients. Blend.
Add raisins-water mixture and nuts.
Fill to half 4 (No. 2) cans that have been well oiled or greased.
Bake 1 hour at 350Β° or until bread springs back when pressed lightly.
Cool 5 minutes, then remove from cans.
Finish cooling.
(Freezes well.)
Any No. 2 vegetable or fruit can will do.
