Bread and Butter Pickles
Bread And Butter Pickles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 24 c. round sliced cucumbers, 1 c. pickling salt, 3 or 4 big onions (the red ones are fine), ice and 5 c. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Put cucumbers and sliced onions in a large pan.
Pour salt over them.
Cover with ice.
Let set 3 hours.
Heat spices, sugar and vinegar.
Drain cucumbers and onions.
Add to spice mix. Bring to boil.
Put in jars to seal.
Makes 6 to 7 quarts.
