Braided Bread
Braided Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 3/4 to 3 c. flour, 1 pkg. active dry yeast, 3/4 c. water, 4 tbsp. butter or margarine and 1 tbsp. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.
Combine 1 cup of flour and the yeast in a large bowl.
Heat water, 2 tablespoons butter, sugar and salt in a pan until lukewarm and butter melts.
Add this to the flour and yeast, along with the egg.
Beat at low speed for 30 seconds, scraping sides of bowl constantly.
Beat 3 minutes at high speed.
By hand, stir in all the flour you can mix in with spoon.
Knead enough of the remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic. Cover dough and let rest 10 minutes.
