Measure flour, brown sugar, salt and cinnamon.
Mix well.
Add shortening, baking powder and soda.
Combine egg and buttermilk. Stir into mixture and beat smooth.
Oil and flour a long pan or 2 cake pans.

Check with toothpick to see if done.
Use as a dessert with ice cream or serve as a cornbread.
