Into medium size bowl sift flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar and sugar.

With pastry blender cut in shortening until quite fine pieces.

Add milk all at once.

Stir just until dough follows fork around the bowl.

Turn out on lightly floured board and gently knead a few times just to smooth out dough.

Pat or roll out to 1/2-inch thick.

Cut with biscuit cutter.

Gather scraps of dough.

Gently mix together and press out.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Let stand for 10 to 15 minutes.

Gives baking powder a chance to start action and they bake up lighter. Bake in a preheated 450Β° oven for 10 to 12 minutes.

Makes 12 to 16.
