Baked Beans
Baked Beans is an moderately easy dinner you can prepare in about 1 hour 54 minutes. Made with bag navy pea beans, onion, cut up, to 3 slices bacon, cut up, to 3 slices bacon (leave whole) and brown sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Wash and sort beans.
Only add cold water to cover beans.
Add approximately 1 tablespoon baking soda.
Cover and bring to boil. It will be very foamy.
Remove from heat and rinse under cold water.
(This supposedly removes some gas from the beans.)
Cover again with cold water (only cover, no more).
Add cut up onion, cut up bacon, salt and pepper.
Cover and bring to boil, then simmer until beans are soft, but not mushy (water should be almost absorbed).
Add molasses, dry mustard and brown sugar to taste. Pour into baking dish.
Lay bacon strips on top.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 minutes.
