Apple Squares
Apple Squares is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3 c. flour, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1 c. shortening, 1 egg, beaten and 1/2 c. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and shortening as for pie crust.
Add water and egg.
Chill.
While dough is chilling, peel and slice 2 pounds of apples.
Roll out 2/3 of dough to fit a 10 x 15-inch cookie sheet.
Add apples, along with the sugar, cinnamon and tapioca.
Roll out remaining dough to fit pan.
Cover filling with top crust, but do not seal edges.
Bake for 1 hour at 350Β°.
Ice with powdered sugar icing while still warm.
Cut into 2-inch squares.
