Apple Roll

Make a syrup of brown sugar and water by cooking 5 minutes. Pour into a deep baking dish.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together into a bowl.
Cut in shortening and then add milk to make a dough.
Roll 1/2-inch thick and spread with chopped apples to which sugar, cinnamon and butter have been added.
Roll like a jelly roll and cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces.
Place pieces in the hot syrup, cut side down, and bake in a 400Β° oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
