Apple Butter Cake
Apple Butter Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 c. sugar, 3 eggs, 1 c. apple butter and 2 1/2 c. flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Beat in eggs one at a time.
Beat until light and fluffy.
Stir in 1 cup apple butter.
Sift together dry ingredients.
Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with sour milk.
(To make sour milk, measure 1 tablespoon lemon juice into measuring cup; add milk to make 1 cup and stir.)
Turn into 2 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans or one 9 x 13-inch pan.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 to 35 minutes.
Cool. Spread bottom layer of cooled cake with 1/4 cup apple butter.
Top with fluffy frosting.
Cover top cake layer.
Frost sides and top. Swirl apple butter onto frosted top to give marbled effect.
