Anadama Bread
Anadama Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. yellow corn meal, 1/2 c. molasses, 6 c. sifted all-purpose flour, 3 tbsp. shortening and 1/2 c. lukewarm water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.
Stir corn meal slowly into combined hot milk and water.
Add shortening, molasses and salt.
Let stand until lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast into warm water.
Stir into corn meal mixture alternately with flour.
Knead about 7 minutes.
Place in greased bowl; turn once to bring greased side up.
Cover and let rise about 1 1/2 hours.
Knead down and shape into 2 loaves.
Cover and let rise about 45 minutes.
Bake at 375Β° for 40 to 50 minutes. Butter top of loaves when done.
