Mix together first 5 ingredients.
Sift together cinnamon, baking powder, cloves and flour.
Add to first mixture along with the almonds.
Separate dough into 3 parts and roll each part into a rope.
Place on greased or oiled cookie sheet and flatten. Brush with mixture of egg yolk and water (you needn't use all). Bake at 375Β° for 20 minutes or until center is slightly firm. Cool slightly on rack.
Slice diagonally with sharp knife.
