TSU Affiliated Programs - American Institute for Foreign Studies (AIFS)

The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) is an organization offering study abroad programs designed for American students.

Study programs are offered in the following countries:
Argentina: Semester programs in Spanish in language, literature, art history, history, economics, politics, philosophy and sociology. Program located in Buenos Aires.

Australia: Semester programs in Australian studies and general courses. Program located in Sydney.

Austria: Semester programs in German and English. Program located in Salzburg.

Czech Republic: Semester and Summer courses in English in business, economics, history, literature, international relations, art history and film. Program located in Prague.

England: Semester and Summer courses in a wide variety of subjects. Program located in London.

France: Semester and Summer courses in French and English in language, art, business, French civilization, politics, literature and theater. Semester program in Grenoble. Summer and Semester programs in Paris and Cannes.

Holland: Semester programs in English in accounting, business, economics, languages, law, management and marketing. Program located in Amsterdam.

Ireland: Semester programs in Irish studies, aeronautical engineering, informatics, equine science, humanities, insurance, physical education, sports science, public administration, physical sciences. Program located in Limerick.

Italy: Semester and summer programs in English in languages, art history, studio art, music, business, economics, politics and sociology. Semester programs in Florence and Rome. Summer programs in Florence.

Poland: Summer programs in language, art history, literature, music, political science and sociology. Program located in Krakow.

Russia: Summer and semester programs in Russian and English in language, art history, history, literature and sociology. Program located in St. Petersburg.

South Africa: Summer and semester programs in African studies, literature, management, political science, religious studies and theater arts. Program located in Stellenbosch.

Spain: Summer and semester programs in Spanish in language, art, history, economics, politics sociology and geography. Summer programs in Santiago de Compostela and Salamanca. Semester programs in Salamanca and Granada.

REQUIREMENTS: Please consult the Study Abroad Checklist for detailed step-by-step instructions concerning requirements for TSU study abroad.

ELIGIBILITY varies from program to program: Most programs have a 2.5 GPA cut off for admission. Some require more advanced language training whereas others do not. Please carefully read the admission requirements for the program you choose.

APPLICATION: Students must apply and be admitted for study abroad before submitting applications for the affiliated program. Application for Study Abroad.

REGISTRATION: Students are placed in Affiliated Study Abroad hours at TSU (amount determined by full-time status requirements). Registration for specific courses offered on the program is conducted through AIFS.

FEES AND TUITION: All fees and tuition are paid to the Affiliated Program. AIFS programs provide for insurance, group flights and housing and meals. Check the program listings on the AIFS website for up-to-date costs. No tuition is charged or paid at TSU.

FINANCIAL AID: Students remain eligible for most TSU financial aid and scholarships as well as the International Education Fee Scholarship. AIFS offers scholarships for their programs. Please consult their website for more information.

CREDIT: Credit is evaluated for TSU course equivalencies before being posted on the student’s record. The Study Abroad Office cannot guarantee that the credit will transfer back or that it will count towards a degree. Students are encouraged to follow study abroad advisement procedures to assist in the return of credit for affiliated programs. For more information on the Credit Approval Process.

TSU students must first apply for Affiliated programs through the Study Abroad Office. Applications are reviewed to assess academic suitability, preparation, and maturity. Applications for specific study programs are available in the Study Abroad Office.
