Scholarships for Study Abroad
INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION FEE SCHOLARSHIPS (IEFS) AT TARLETON STATE
UNIVERSITY
The money for the IEFS comes from the $1 International Education
Fee which each student pays as a part of their TSU tuition. It is
a competitive scholarship and money is awarded to students who participate
in a Study Abroad Program. Applicants must use an award to participate
in a specific program and credit must be brought back to TSU. The
amounts of the awards generally range from $250 - $750 per summer
program / $250- $1000 per semester program. Normal competition deadline
dates are as follows. Summer/Fall program applications are due at
the end of February. Spring program applications are due in early
October.
For: TSU graduate and undergraduate students participating in
TSU international study programs.
Amount: Awards of $250-$750 for summer study and $250-$1000 for
semester-long study.
Period of Study: Awards offered for Spring, Summer or Fall.
Requirements: TSU students who have completed at least one year
of study at TSU.

FULLBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS
Applicants should be U. S. citizens at the time of application.
Preference is given to applicants whose higher education was received
primarily at educational institutions in the U. S. Applicants
must also hold a B. A. degree or its equivalent before the beginning
date of the grant. Language skills may be necessary depending
on the intended country of study. Deadline for application is
approximately one year prior to commencement of study.

NSEP NATIONAL SECURITY EXCHANGE PROGRAM
For students in undergraduate and graduate levels to study in
countries other than Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New
Zealand.
All recipients of NSEP awards incur a requirement to enter into
an agreement, in order of priority, to work for an agency of the
federal government with national security responsibilities or
to work in the field of higher education in the area of study
for which the scholarship was awarded.

RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS
Rhodes Scholarships are applicable to study at Oxford University
alone. Appointment of scholarship is made for two (2) years with
a possible third (3rd) year. Application is to be made in the
candidates home state or state in which at least two (2) years
of college has been completed. The scholarship includes all tuition
fees plus a maintenance allowance of £6,708 per year paid directly
to scholar. Eligible candidates will be between the ages of eighteen
(18) and twenty-four (24) and have achieved academic standing
sufficiently advanced to assure completion of a Bachelors
by October 1 of the year following application. Deadline for application
is usually October 1 of the year before intended entry.
British Marshall Scholarships
The British Marshall Scholarship is tenable at any British university
and covers two (2) years of study in any discipline at either
the undergraduate or graduate level. Applications to universities
other than Oxford or Cambridge are particularly welcomed. The
awarded amount varies but an average figure is approximately £13,500
per year. This amount covers residence and cost of living expenses,
tuition, fees, books, travel, thesis and support of a dependent
spouse. Eligible applicants will be citizens of the United States,
will not have reached their 26th birthday, hold a first degree
from a four (4) year college or university, and have obtained
after their freshman year a GPA of not less than 3.7. Deadline
for application is approximately one year prior to intended entry.
GILMAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
For: Current undergraduates
Amount: Up to $5,000 depending on length of study
Period of Study: For semester and yearlong study
Requirements: U.S. Citizenship, program acceptance, current
recipient of Title VI financial aid.

Amount: Awards of up to $22,000 for yearlong study

FREEMAN-ASIA SCHOLARSHIP
For: TSU undergraduate students participating in study
abroad programs in Asia.
Amount: Range from $3,000 to $7000 depending on the length of
study.
Period of Study: Spring, Summer or Fall.
Requirements: U.S citizens or permanent residents in need of financial
assistance.

PROGRAM-SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS
AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR FOREIGN STUDY (INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS)
AIFS awards approximately fifty (50) $1,000 scholarships for fall
semester programs, approximately fifty (50) $1,000 scholarships
for spring semester programs, and ten (10) $500 scholarships for
summer programs. Applicants must be college undergraduates with
a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Applicants must be participating in
an AIFS program. To be considered, applicants must submit a completed
scholarship application and program application to the AIFS College
Division. Deadlines are mid March for summer programs, mid April
for fall semester programs, and mid October for spring semester
programs.

AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR FOREIGN STUDY (MINORITY SCHOLARSHIPS)
AIFS awards on full minority scholarship per semester for an AIFS
program. Five (5) runner-up awards for $1,000 each are also awarded.
Applications will be accepted from African Americans, Asian Americans,
Hispanics, Native Americans and Pacific Islanders. Selection criteria
include financial need, academic accomplishment, leadership ability,
community/extra curricular participation centered on multicultural
or international issues, completion of at least twenty-four (24)
credits toward a degree and meeting the criteria for the AIFS program
for which the candidate is applying. Application deadline is mid
April for the fall and mid October for the spring.

CIEE TRAVEL GRANTS FOR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
These travel grants are funded through the sale of the International
Student Identity Cards and awarded to high school and undergraduate
students participating in educational programs in the developing
nations of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Students participating
in a broad range of educational activities, including study, work,
voluntary service, internships, and home stays are eligible for
support. Applicants must be U. S. citizens or permanent residents
sixteen (16) years of age or older. Applicants may participate in
an educational program in any country EXCEPT the following: Australia,
Canada, Europe, Israel, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore,
or the United States. Applicants must be nominated TSU. Applications
are due the beginning of March for programs beginning between June
1 and December 31; and October 1 for programs beginning between
January 1 and July 31 of the following year.
