White Bread
White Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 to 2/3 c. sugar, 1 heaping tbsp. shortening, 2 c. milk, flour and 2 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Pour boiling water over sugar, salt and shortening.
Scald milk and pour on above.
When lukewarm, add yeast.
Add enough flour until dough is able to be kneaded.
Put dough on floured board and knead, adding flour as necessary.
Knead until smooth and elastic.
Put dough into greased bowl.
Rub butter or shortening on top.
Cover and let rise until doubled in size. Punch down; let rise in bowl again until double in size.
