War Cake (No Eggs)
War Cake (No Eggs) is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. brown sugar, 2 c. hot water, 2 tsp. shortening, 1/2 to 3/4 c. raisins and 1 tsp. each: salt, cinnamon and cloves, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.

Mix brown sugar, hot water and shortening.
Add raisins.
Then add salt and spices.
Boil this for 5 minutes after it first bubbles.
Remove it from stone and let cool, being sure it is cooled completely.
Then add flour and 1 teaspoon soda that has been dissolved in hot water; mix well.
Pour into greased tube pan and bake for 1 hour at 350° to 375°.
