Walnut Cake
Walnut Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. butter, 2 c. sugar, 1 c. buttermilk, 2 c. flour and 1 1/2 c. black walnuts, chopped, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Cream butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks; beat well.
Combine buttermilk and baking soda; stir until baking soda is dissolved.
Add flour to creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk and beginning and ending with flour.
Add vanilla, black walnuts and coconut.
Add cream of tartar to egg whites; beat until stiff.
Fold into batter.
Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch pans.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 minutes.
