Virginia Pound Cake

Cream butter and sugar together.
Add 3 eggs.
Sift baking powder and flour together and add to egg and sugar mixture alternately with milk.
Add vanilla.
Add the remaining egg.
Beat into the batter just a little to mix.
Pour mixture into pan and set in refrigerator for 1 hour.
Place in cold oven and set temperature to 275°.
Bake for 1 hour.
Turn temperature up to 300°; bake 40 minutes.
