Virginia Applesauce Cake

Cream shortening; add egg and sauce.
Sift flour before measuring.
(Sift some over nuts.)
Dissolve soda in hot water. Add alternately with flour to mixture.
Add raisins and nuts. Bake in a tube pan for 1 hour at 350Β°, or until toothpick comes out clean.
