Sweet Pickle
Sweet Pickle is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 gal. cukes, 1 gal. water, 2 c. salt, alum and apple cider vinegar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.

Wash cukes and cut into chunks (1 gallon of chunks).
Boil 1 gallon water with 2 cups salt.
Pour over cucumbers in crock jar or plastic bucket.
Weigh down.
Let set 8 days.
Drain and rinse well.
Cover with 2 ounces of alum per gallon of boiling water. Let set for 24 hours.
Drain and rinse (once).
Cover with apple cider vinegar.
Let set 8 to 24 hours.
Drain.
Layer: pickle, sugar and spice (use 10 pounds of sugar to 4 gallons of pickles). Let stand 2 days (makes its own syrup).
Let stand 2 or 3 more days.
Can or leave in crock.
