Sweet Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. shortening (preferably butter), 1 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 c. milk and 1 yeast cake, dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Dissolve butter, sugar and salt in 1 cup of hot milk.
Cool to lukewarm.
Combine with other ingredients.
Set this sponge in warm place, free of drafts, overnight.
Cut down in morning and shape into 2 loaves.
Place dough in greased loaf pans and let rise about 1 hour.
Bake in moderate 350Β° oven for 50 to 60 minutes.
Cool 5 minutes, then turn out on rack.
