Soften the yeast in 1/2 cup warm water to which 1 tablespoon of sugar has been added.

Combine rest of sugar, milk, shortening and salt in large mixer bowl.

Using slow speed, add eggs.

Turn mixer a bit slower (no. 1) and add 2 cups flour and yeast.

Turn beaters to medium speed (no. 5) and beat for about 4 minutes. With a spoon, add as much of flour as can be stirred in without kneading.

Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise until double in bulk.

(Put in warm place for this.)

Turn out on lightly floured board and cut with biscuit cutter.

Fold over as for Parker House rolls.

Bake at 425Β° until lightly browned, 15 minutes.
