Cream sugar and butter well.
Blend in oil, eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt together and mix thoroughly.
Make into small balls; flatten with a glass dipped in sugar.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 12 minutes at 350Β°. Makes about 11 dozen small or 7 to 8 dozen medium size cookies.
