Split Seconds
Split Seconds is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. sifted flour, 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 2/3 c. sugar, 3/4 c. shortening or margarine and 1 unbeaten egg, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.
Sift together the flour, baking powder and sugar.
Blend in the shortening, egg and vanilla.
Place on lightly floured board. Divide into 4 parts; shape each into roll, 13 x 3/4-inch wide. Place on ungreased cookie sheet 4-inches apart.
Make depression down center of each roll.
Fill depression with jelly, jam or marmalade of your choice.
Bake in 350Β° oven for 15 to 20 minutes until light golden brown.
While warm, cut diagonally bars; cool on wire rack.
Transfer to wire rack to cool.
