"Southern Living" Bar Cookie
"Southern Living" Bar Cookie is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels, 1 (18.25 oz.) pkg. german chocolate cake mix with pudding, 1 large egg, 1 (5 oz.) can evaporated milk (divided) and 3/4 c. butter or margarine (melted), this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.

1. Combine caramels and 1/4 c. evaporated milk in small saucepan.
Cook over low heat stirring occasionally until smooth. Set aside. 2. In a bowl combine cake mix, butter, egg, and remaining milk.
Spoon half of mixture into greased 13 x 9 x 2 pan spreading evenly. 3. Bake at 350° for 6 minutes.
Remove from oven; sprinkle with chocolate morsels and pecans. 4. Spoon caramel mixture on top.
Carefully spoon remaining cake mixture over caramel layer. 5. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes.
Cool on wire rack and cut into bars.
Yields about 3 dozen.
