Southern Gal Biscuits

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cream of tartar into bowl.
Add the shortening to the flour mixture to blend together until of cornmeal-like consistency.
Pour milk into flour mixture slowly.
Add egg.
Stir to a stiff dough.
Knead five times.
Roll to 1/2-inch thickness.
Cut with 1 1/2-inch cutter. Bake on an aluminum cookie sheet for 10 to 15 minutes at 450Β°.
