Boil raisins in water until soft.
Cream sugar and shortening.
Add 7 tablespoons of liquid from raisins and the soda.
Beat in eggs.
Add cooked, drained raisins.
Stir in oatmeal, flour, cinnamon, salt and vanilla.
Add nuts last.
Drop on greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350Β° for 15 minutes.
Store in tight container.
