Made with 1 can lye, 2 1/2 pt. cold water, 6 lb. clean lard or grease, 2 c. or more powdered bleach and water softener powder (for hard water), this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Slowly empty contents of 1 can of lye into 2 1/2 pints cold water in an iron or enamel vessel. Stir occasionally until dissolved, being careful not to inhale too much.
Allow to cool to lukewarm.
