Heat butter and brown sugar to 308Β° on candy thermometer (hard crack) over medium heat.
Pour caramel layer over pecans that are placed in single layer in a 9 x 13-inch pan.
Sprinkle chocolate chips on top; spread as they melt.
Cool for 3 to 4 hours.
Flip out of pan and break into pieces.
