Cream shortening, sugar, egg, applesauce, soda and boiling water.
Sift together flour, salt, cinnamon, cloves and allspice and add gradually to creamed mixture.
Add raisins and nuts gradually.
Beat well and pour into oblong pan and bake 1 hour at 350Β°.
