Sift together flour, powder, soda, salt and spices.
Blend nuts and raisins with 1 tablespoon sifted dry ingredients.
Cream shortening, then add sugars, blend in egg.
Add applesauce, alternating with sifted dry ingredients.
Blend in floured nuts and raisins.
Mix thoroughly.
Pour into lightly greased and floured pan, in 9 x 9 x 2-inches.
Bake at 350Β° for 45 to 50 minutes.
