Combine first 4 ingredients; stir well.
Let shortening dissolve.
Sprinkle yeast in warm water; let stand about 5 to 10 minutes, then add to first mixture.
Put well beaten egg into mixture.
Add mixture to flour; mix well, etc.
Let rise, as desired, and bake at 425Β° for 12 to 15 minutes or until brown. Makes 2 dozen.
