Sift the first 4 ingredients into bowl.
Add shortening, milk and vanilla.
Beat with electric mixer on slow to medium speed for 2 minutes.
Scrape sides and bottom of bowl frequently.
Add eggs. Continue beating 2 more minutes, scraping bowl frequently.
Pour batter into prepared pans.
Cook at 375Β°.
Makes 2 layers.
