Raisin Spice Squares

Heat oven to 350Β°.
Boil raisins rapidly in 2 cups water in uncovered medium sized saucepan for 10 minutes.
Transfer to large bowl.
Cool to lukewarm.
Stir in egg, then shortening and sugar.
Sift flour and dry ingredients together and add.
Add raisin mixture and nuts.
Bake for 25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
