Combine sugar, water and syrup in pan, bring to a boil and cook to a hardball stage
While syrup is cooking, beat the egg whites with cream of tartar and salt
Don't beat until dry
When syrup is ready, pour slowly into egg whites and beat with mixer until smooth, at medium speed
Continue to beat until it stands in soft peaks. 10-15 minutes
Add vanilla
Drop by teaspoon onto wax paper.
