Preheat oven to 325°.
Blend Crisco and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Add 1 cup flour and salt.
Stir in milk.
Pat evenly in greased pan.
Bake at 325° for 20 minutes or until light brown.
Beat eggs, 1 cup brown sugar and vanilla until thick.
Stir in remaining ingredients.
Pour mixture in pan.
Bake at 325° for 20 minutes or until brown.
Frost and garnish with cherries, if desired. Cut into squares.
