Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff.
Add sugar, vanilla and nuts.
Pour into an 8-inch greased pie pan.
Mold sides up to form a pie shell.

Melt chocolate in water and cool.
Beat whipping cream until thick.
Mix vanilla into cooled chocolate and fold together with whipped cream.
Pour into cooled meringue pie shell.
