Mix cut up oranges with 1/2 cup sugar; let rest in refrigerator overnight.

Add thickening mixture made from 4 egg yolks, 4 tablespoons cornstarch and 1/2 cup sugar; mix well.

Add 1 quart hot milk (4 cups); cook on low fire until thick.

Cool. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla; pour over oranges.

Beat egg whites until foamy.

Add 1/4 cup sugar, a little at a time.

Pour over pudding. Seal edges.

Bake at 400Β° for 15 to 20 minutes.
