Onion Biscuit Squares

Heat oven to 450Β°; grease square pan (8 x 8 x 2-inch).
In skillet, cook onions; stir in 1/4 teaspoon each of salt and pepper, in hot shortening until onions are tender and golden.
Set aside. Prepare dough.
Roll dough to a 10-inch square; pat firmly over bottom and sides of pan; spread onions over top.
In a small bowl, beat egg, sour cream and 1/4 teaspoon salt; pour over onions.
Bake about 20 minutes or until lightly brown.
Cut into squares and serve warm with roast beef.
Serves 9 to 12.
