Old-Fashioned Gingersnaps

Beat the butter in large bowl until light.
Slowly add sugar. Beat in molasses, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda and salt. Add flour, 1/4 cup at a time.
Mix thoroughly.
Chill 4 hours. Heat oven to 325Β°.
Divide cookie dough in half.
Shape each half into 1 1/2-inch thick rolls.
Cut dough crosswise with sharp knife into 1/2-inch thick slices.
Place on lightly buttered baking sheet.
Bake cookies until golden, about 8 minutes.
Makes 5 dozen.
