Add oatmeal to boiling water; let stand for 20 minutes.
Cream sugar and margarine; add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
Add oatmeal.
Sift dry ingredients together; add to creamed mixture, stirring just enough to blend.
Add vanilla. Place in greased and floured 12 x 7 1/2 x 3/4-inch baking dish. Bake at 325Β° for 35 minutes or until cake springs back when touched.
