Pour boiling water over oatmeal and let stand 20 minutes. Cream shortening with sugars.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Sift together dry ingredients.
Add to creamed mixture alternately with oatmeal mixture.
Pour in a 9 x 12-inch loaf cake pan.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 to 35 minutes.
