Oatmeal Bread
Oatmeal Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 c. boiling water, 3 tbsp. crisco, 2 c. rolled oats, 1 c. molasses and 4 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.
Add boiling water to oats and Crisco. Allow to cool to lukewarm. Add molasses, salt and yeast (dissolved in lukewarm water) with 1 teaspoon sugar (to be sure yeast is good). Add flour to make stiff dough. Knead well.
Let rise until double in bulk. Knead very little.
Divide into 4 greased bread pans.
Let rise again.
Bake for 10 minutes at 400°, then lower oven to 350° for another 15 minutes, being sure to turn.
