Mix cornstarch, 2 tablespoons sugar and water in saucepan. Cook gently until thickened; cool.
Beat egg whites and salt until stiff.
Add 6 tablespoons of sugar gradually, beating constantly. Add vanilla and mix well.
Continue beating while adding cooled mixture.
Beat until very stiff.
Pile on pie and bake in preheated oven at 350Β° for 15 minutes.
