Add soda to dates.
Pour hot water over them.
Cream butter and sugar and add dates, eggs, flour, salt, cocoa and vanilla. Beat well.
Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips.
Pour in a greased, floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
Sprinkle the rest of the chocolate chips and all of the nuts over the top and bake for 40 minutes at 350Β°.
