Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.

In large bowl, sift together 4 cups flour and baking soda.

Cut in lard until it looks like coarse crumbs.

Mix together the remaining 1 cup flour with buttermilk and yeast mixture to the flour mixture.

Mix well. Turn out on lightly floured surface and knead.

Place in greased bowl, covered, in refrigerator.

Biscuits are ready to bake at any time.

When you are ready to bake, roll out and cut as many as needed.

Bake in a 425Β° oven for about 15 minutes.

Yields about 3 dozen biscuits.
